BAR Adam—historian of literature and philosophy, b. December 20, 1895 in Stanisławów, d. March 29, 1955 in Kraków.

Adam Bar studied philosophy at the University of Kraków where he worked as a librarian. He was the author of many works, especially in the history of literature. He studied the influence of Hegelian philosophy on Polish literature. The results of these studies are found in his treatises: Die ersten Einflüsse Hegels in der polnischen Zeitschriftenliteratur (Germanoslavica 1 (1931–1932), 67–82) and Zwolennicy i przeciwnicy filozofii Hegla w polskim czasopiśmiennictwie (1830–1840) [Followers and opponents of Hegel’s philosophy in Polish journals] (Archiwum Komisji do Badania Historii Filozofii w Polsce [Archive of the Commision for the Study of the History of Philosophy in Poland] 5 (1933), 73–198).

Adam Bar is to be recognized for gathering bibliographical materials for the published Bibliografii filozofii polskiej [Bibliography of Polish philosophy]. He also published a bibliography concerning the reception of Descartes in Poland (KF 19 (1950), 151–160).
